The Wastewater Treatment Plant puts out a high quality effluent, well below the minimum Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requirements for our treatment plant. The effluent is tested 3 times per week for ph balance, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. The Total Suspended Solids (TSS) is tested two times per week for mixed liquor concentration, CBOD5, ammonia, and nitrogen. A toxicity test is performed once a year. The wastewater operator will record the flows for raw waste, plant effluent, and final effluent on a daily basis. All of the City's testing is done in compliance with the DNR permit requirements.  The treatment plant processes approximately 1.2 MGD on an average day, flows can be as much as 4.22 MGD on a peak day; the plant is designed for 1.245 MGD on a peak day.  Planning for the continued growth in Waukee, the City opted into the Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) in 2006 allowing for additional sanitary sewer capacity to meet the needs of our growing community.
