Annual Festivals and Events

The City of Waukee holds a number of annual festivals and events, all in an effort to connect with our residents and build a sense of community. These events are coordinated by our talented and hard-working Parks and Recreation Department and offer holiday fun as well as community outreach. Read about our annual festivals and events below. Join Waukee Parks and Recreation for our fourth annual FamilyFest! This free family-friendly event will get you out of the house to burn away those winter blues. Businesses from the Waukee area will have tables with games and prizes for kids as well as inflatables.ALL FREE! easter girlEaster Coloring Contest 
Help the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department spread some Easter cheer around Waukee’s Downtown Triangle Businesses by participating in the annual Easter Coloring Contest! To participate, click here to print the coloring sheets and entry form or email mstotz@waukee.org to request that sheets and a form be emailed to you. Entries can be dropped off at the Waukee Public Works Building M-F from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is also a drop box by the front door for after office hours. Entries may also be mailed to:

The contest will start February 16 and the last day to submit finished coloring pages is March 18. A winner in each category will be announced at the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26, and winners will receive an egg’cellent Easter basket filled with goodies. 

Coloring pages will be displayed in the following Downtown Triangle Businesses: 
  • Classic Floral Design: 4 & under
  • Waukee Hardware Store: 5-7 years old
  • Charter Bank: 5-7 years old
  • Heartland Co-op: 8-10 years old 

Easter Egg Hunt

Hop on over and fill baskets full of candy at Waukee’s annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department! There will be three age groups: 4 & under, 5-7 years old and 8-10 years old.

Live Healthy Iowa 5K Run/Walk

Join along with Live Healthy Iowa for a 5K Run/Walk and a 1K Fun Run starting and ending at Centennial Park. The 5K will serve as an end to Live Healthy Iowa's 10 Week Wellness Challenge. Adult Challenge participants will receive a $10 discount on registration. Click here to register.

Movies in the Park 
Sundays in Centennial
Big screen movies under the big dipper provide for an abundance of family fun. This free event is a great way to make memories with your family and neighbors while enjoying Hollywood's biggest hits under the stars. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Fresh popcorn and drinks are sold by the Park Board.

You get to choose the movies we show! 
 
The Friday, June 3 options are The Sandlot, Inside Out or The Peanuts Movie. Vote here May 16-22.

The Friday, July 22 options are Ramona & Beezus, Rio 2 or Home. Vote here July 4-10.

Celebrate Waukee: Unlock Yours

Join us for the second annual Celebrate Waukee festival! The family-friendly event will kick off Friday evening with one of Waukee's free "Movies in the Park". Saturday morning festivities begin in the historic Waukee Triangle with a pancake breakfast and a 5K run. Activities continue with a parade that will take the fun from Triangle Park to Centennial Park where attendees will find a wide range of activities for all ages, including inflatables, food, drinks, live music, fireworks, and much more. In 2014, Iowa’s world-famous RAGBRAI joined with the founders of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition to create the unique BACooN RIDE, combining the love of bacon and the love of bike riding. The inaugural BACooN RIDE took place in June 2014 and covered 71-miles of the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

In 2015, an exciting party called BACooN Sizzles Waukee was introduced as the kick-off event to the weekend full of bacon and bikes. All bacon lovers are invited to join us in 2016 and enjoy mouth-watering bacon delicacies from a host of vendors, and a beer garden with a variety of local and national brews. 4th of July Celebration fireworks
Each year, Waukee hosts an all-day celebration of our nation's independence. Activities start at 3 p.m. with a parade through the Historic Downtown that ends at Centennial Park where the fun continues for the rest of the day and night. Bring your friends and family for fun with inflatables, the Game on Game Trailer, live music, food vendors, and a great fireworks show after dusk.

dallas co fairKids Day at the Dallas County Fair 
Join the Waukee and Dallas County Parks & Recreation Departments as we host a kids day in conjunction with 4-H Cover Kids and the Dallas County Fair. We will be serving up all kinds of fun including a bubble gum blowing contest and a pie eating contest. Come check out how fun it is the be a "Park and Rec kid" at the Dallas County Fair. Haunted House

Haunted House-e
The Waukee Park Board sponsors an annual haunted house at the Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter. Enter if you dare, but be prepared to be scared. This haunted house is not suggested for young children.

Time: 7-10 p.m.
Location:  Enclosed Shelter at Centennial Park
Cost: $5 (Bring three nonperishable goods for the Waukee Area Food Bank and receive $1 off)

Santa Claus is coming to town! Come early and help him light the holiday tree in Triangle Park then visit with him at the Community Center while you warm up with hot chocolate and cookies. Join the Waukee Area Arts Council and the downtown businesses for special holiday crafts and open houses. Please bring a nonperishable food item or toy to help support the Waukee Area Food Pantry.
