Citywide Clean-Up Day

For hazardous waste disposal year-round, please visit the Metro Waste Authority Northwest Drop-Off Center in Grimes open the second Saturday of each month. Click here for details and a list of accepted items.

Otherwise, there is a Citywide Clean-Up Day held in Waukee each year in the spring. The 2017 event will be held Saturday, May 6. This is a great opportunity to get rid of bulky waste like furniture and other similar items. Please have your items on the curb before 7 a.m. Curbside pick-up does not apply to those living in neighborhood associations and apartment complexes WITH PRIVATE TRASH COLLECTION. 

The following items will not be accepted at the curb:

  • Broken up concrete/asphalt
  • Demolition materials
  • Electronics (see Appliance and Electronics collection information below)
  • Hazardous materials (see Household Hazardous Waste Collection information below)
  • Loose shingles
  • Lumber 
  • Anything longer than 5 feet
  • Paint
  • Propane tanks
  • Tires (See Tire Collection information below)
  • Yard Waste (Collected on Mondays during warm months)

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Citizens are invited to bring their household hazardous waste to the Vince Meyer Learning Center parking lot at 445 5th Street during the annual Citywide Clean-Up Day.

Tire Collection

Citizens are invited to dispose of old tires at the former Waukee Public Works Building at 1205 6th Street between 8 a.m. and noon on the annual Citywide Clean-Up Day. Tire disposal fees are collected at the time and place of original purchase. Citizens are encouraged to dispose of old tires at the location that they were originally purchased, whenever possible.

Semi-truck and tractor tires $5.00 each
