All-Star Sports Camp, Various Dates

This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Each day, participants will be engaged in activities including soccer, flag football, disc golf, kickball, capture the flag, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, Lacrosse, yoga and other classic physical education activities. Ages 5-10 years. Register

Art in the Park, Various Dates

Put on your Picasso painting hat - it’s time to get artistic! Artists will be able to create a variety of age-appropriate masterpieces, including a personalized canvas, a collective group project and a self-portrait. We may get messy, so please have your artist wear appropriate clothing. Ages 5-10. Register

Cheer Camp, June 12-15

The Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Waukee High School Cheerleading Squad to offer a four-day Cheerleading Camp. This camp will provide girls and boys with an opportunity to learn cheerleading techniques and new cheers.

Dickey’s Ryukyu Karate Jiu Jitsu Little Ninjas & Karate,
April 12-May 17

This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of Taekwondo and Karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind
and body. The instructor, Dickey Renshi, has been teaching martial arts for more than 25 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Class length is 30 minutes, and sessions are ongoing throughout the year. Ages 4 & up. Register

Engineering for Kids: Robotics Curriculum

Junior Robotics (Grades K-1), Various Dates 
Kids will learn about the concept of robotics and get to build and program their first robots. This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning using LEGO robots at an introductory level. They also will program and operate their creations using a laptop computer. Register.

Apprentice Robotics 101 (Grades 2-5), Various Dates  

This program is designed to introduce students to both robot-building and programming. Students will build robots to accomplish a specific task while using their imagination. Students will discover the Engineering Design Process in a real world setting. Register

Engineering for Kids: Mechanical Engineering Curriculum

Apprentice Mechanical Engineering (Grades 2-5), Various Dates
Students will use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and improve a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of energy, traction, aerodynamics and durability while constructing roller coasters, eggstreme defense vehicles, candy catapults and an air-powered custom dragster. Register.

Explore the Outdoors and More, July 10-14

Get away from the electronics and back into nature! This camp will include nature play in different parks and creek beds, activities that help children relate with natural elements and a field trip to the Kuehn Conservation Center. Join us for an exciting week of nature, fun and learning. Ages 5-10 years. Register

Home Alone Awareness, April 22

Thinking of leaving your child at home alone this summer? Make sure they are safe! This class is taught by the Waukee Police and Fire Departments. They will provide educational tools and safety tips to help keep your child safe and aware of dangers in and around your house. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Grades K-5. Register

Hy-Vee Kids Cook: Lucky Leprachauns, March 15 

Milk and cookies may be a classic, but there are plenty of other easy-to-make green foods. Enjoy this hands-on cooking class taught by Waukee Hy-Vee Dietitian Erin Good, and learn to prepare delicious snacks with a healthy twist. Grades 5-8. Register

Kid Fit Camp, Various Dates

Bring your child to meet new friends and to polish large and gross motor skills. Each 30-minute class will consist of games, songs, music and movement. The kids will leave happily worn out. We encourage parents/guardians to stay and enjoy the fun. Ages 3-5. Register

Kids in Harmony Parent/Child Developmental Music, Various Dates

Board-certified music therapists (MT-BC) design and teach classes which provide children of all abilities with developmentally appropriate and enriching opportunities to sing, move and explore musical play. Sessions are playful and designed to meet developmental needs of the students as well as provide a positive bonding experience with parents/caregivers. Ages 0-5. Register

Kids in the Kitchen, June 19-20
ISU Extension and Outreach presents a Kids in the Kitchen. Eating healthy and cooking skills go hand in hand. Kids will have the opportunity to prepare and taste healthy foods while learning about healthy eating and physical activity along with food and kitchen safety. They will have so much fun preparing these inexpensive and easy recipes.
Grades K-4. Register

Racing Challenge with Radio Controlled Cars, July 24-26

ISU Extension and Outreach presents a Racing Challenge with Radio Controlled Cars. Performing as engineers, participants will work together to design a logo and modify a race vehicle for superior performance. Use math and physics to calibrate suspension, adjust tires and alter other factors to improve performance and aerodynamics. 
Grades 6-8. Register

Red Cross Babysitting Training, June 27 & August 15

Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class and gain life experience by practicing babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. Participants must be 11 years old and need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit. Ages 11 & upRegister

Rounded Minds Spanish Language Immersion, Various Dates

Rounded Minds’™ mission is to make top-level extracurricular activities available, convenient and affordable to parents who desire to raise well-rounded children and establish a strong foundation for their lifelong success. This unique programming
focuses on building strong bodies and minds while providing benefits of natural bilingual learning at an early age. This year, Rounded Minds will offer multiple sessions of Soccer and Sports Exploration! Ages 2-6. Register

Special Needs Activities

Kids in Harmony Adaptive Social Music Group, Various Dates
Board-certified music therapists (MT-BC) design each class having the child with special needs in mind. Experienced therapists strive to engage individuals in the group and with each other in order to provide rich social experiences not available in other settings. Participants will be an important part of the music-making by way of instrument play, movement and/or singing/vocalizing in each group as the therapist facilitates high-quality live music experiences. Courage League Sports, Year-Round 
Courage League Sports is an adaptive sports and recreational program for children and adults with special needs - including physical, cognitive, social and emotional challenges. Located in Urbandale and offering year-round programming Monday through Saturday, Courage League Sports provides opportunities for every age group. All ages welcome. Adaptive Sports Days at Centennial Park, Various Dates
Enjoy summer mornings full of activities specifically designed for those with special needs. Courage League’s program staff will be leading some of your favorite field games adapted to the skill level of participants. We guarantee a fun-filled morning of play and

Splish-Splash Camp, July 5-7

Cool off this summer and travel to three different greater metro area aquatic centers. Make sure to pack sunscreen, a towel, goggles and snack money. Participants will be transported by the Parks & Recreation staff during camp. Ages 8-12 years. Register

Storytime in the Park, August 7-11

The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department partners with the Waukee Public Library to offer this FREE program to young bookworms. Enjoy themed story books including cats, dogs, trains, numbers and bears followed by a different craft or activity each day following the stories. This program takes place at the Centennial Park Open Shelter. All ages welcome. Story will be geared toward children 5 years old and younger. 

Storywalk, Ongoing

Take an adventure with a story! The Waukee Public Library and the Parks & Recreation Department have join together to promote literature and exercise. Enjoy a different book each month displayed along the Heart of the Warrior Trail between 6th Street and the intersection of Ashworth Drive, Northview Drive and Warrior Lane. All ages welcome. 

Studio Bea Dance 2 to Move, Various Dates

This class is designed for parents and their little dancer to bond while having fun. Dancers will gain confidence, improve social and gross motor skills, all while using their imagination to learn and explore dance and movement. Children ages 18 months through 3 years old are invited to register for this program. A parent or guardian must accompany each child as they will take an active role in their dancer’s skill development.

Summer Fun Camp, Various Dates

Join us for an action-packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy three days of field trips to an aquatic center, an indoor activity center and much more! The other two days will be spent playing games and activities in the park, for a total of
five days of camp with lots of activities to enjoy. Ages 8-12 years. Register

Super Snackers, Various Dates

Waukee’s next top chef might be in your own house — let us help you find out! Chefs will learn new, fun and healthy summer snack ideas they can make any time of the year. Ages 7-11. Register

Tot Lot, Now-March 29 

Romp, stomp and play! We have the set-up to meet your children’s activity and social needs. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. Tot Lot is held during the colder months of the year on Mondays from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and on Wednesdays from 8-10 a.m. at the Waukee Public Works Building. The current session goes through March 29. Look for fall and winter dates later this year. Toddlers welcome.

Tumbling Tots, Various Dates

This 30-minute, developmental play program is a very basic beginning program for little ones designed to get them exploring large motor movements in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. Ages 2-3 years. Register

Tumbling Tots 2, Various Dates

This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions. They will improve upon their tumbling skills and movements, coordination, strength and balance, by learning somersaults, front flips, back flips and more. Ages 4-5 years. Register

Youth in the Parks, Various Dates

This week-long service learning camp gives participants a chance to learn about community betterment by volunteering at various locations in Waukee and surrounding areas. The camp consists of morning volunteer activities, while the afternoons are filled with fun field trips. Ages 5-10 years. Register
