POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction, plans, directs,
and coordinates a comprehensive recreational and leisure time program;
supervises any full and/or part-time staff and all volunteers engaged
in recreational services and program operations, works closely with
representatives in the community in developing and implementing specific
programs or competitive events. Work involves a combination of operational,
managerial, administrative tasks including maintenance administration
and public relations as well as program development and implementation
functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements recreational activities
and events.
- Arranges, attends, and supervises department’s recreational
programs, including softball leagues, senior citizen activities,
youth activities, various tournaments, and other special events or
activities.
- Conducts program evaluations to determine feasibility, participation
level, and quality of each program and event.
- Attends and participates in various city and civic meetings; attends
seminars, workshops, and clinics to provide for professional development.
- Conducts regular checks of all activities at program sites to monitor
staff and assist with problems.
- Prepares and distributes departmental press releases, newsletters,
and informational brochures.
- Develops long range plans for park development, including structures
or other improvements and corresponding funding proposals.
- Provides training to employees to include policies on public contact
and conflict resolution, Red Cross certification, proper maintenance
and care taking techniques and practices of grounds and facilities
and general training on policies and procedures.
- Prepares and submits required reports, including monthly and annual
activity reports, budget reviews, and monthly expenditures.
- Enhance departmental revenue by writing and submitting grant applications.
- Performs activities under strict deadlines and other time pressures.
