Gas Meter Hook-up Fees

The cost for the residential gas meter/hook-up fee is $615.00 which is paid with the building permit. The commercial gas meter hook-up fee is based on the time and materials needed when the meter is set and is billed out separately from the building permit.  Gas service and meter application is completed during the building permit application process.

Meters are read every 3rd week of the month. For more information on Utility Billing

Excess Flow Valve

In accordance with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration (PHMSA), all natural gas operators are required to install an excess flow valve on all single residential service lines that operate at not less than 10 psi (pound per square inch of pressure).

What is an Excess Flow Valve?
An excess flow valve is a device that will restrict gas flow in a customers natural gas service line by automatically closing in the event that the service line is broken, cut completely, torn apart, or otherwise separated - usually caused by some type of excavation or digging. A natural gas service line is the piping from the gas main near the street to the customer meter set and runs underground through the customer's yard.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An excess flow valve will not protect against the following:
1. Customer appliance leaks
2. Small gas service line punctures
3. Gas meter set leaks

Pilot Lights

The Waukee Municipal Gas will light pilots free of charge. However, the Gas Department will not do maintenance on gas appliances and reserves the right to refuse this service if the City Employee feels it is being abused.
