Duties and Responsibilities:

As the Chief of Police in Waukee, Chief Phillips' duties and responsibilities include the management of personnel function, including implementation of policies, training, appointments, promotions and disciplinary actions. He supervises the expenditure of budgeted funds for the department; maintains cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, City officials, civic groups and citizens; plans. He organizes and directs the department in the maintenance of law and order, the protection of life and property; the apprehension, arrests and detention of law violators; analyzes innovative service activities as reported in trade journals and at conferences for applicability to the department. He also assists in the development of regulatory ordinances and laws regarding public safety, and provides for the maintenance of police records and jail facilities. He regulates traffic and enforces inspections of police enforced licenses; and promotes the department in public relations activities by maintaining media relations, and by serving on appropriate boards and committees.
