Mayor Peard and City of Waukee Announce Major Milestone in Alice's Road Corridor Project

Mayor Bill Peard announced today on behalf of the city council and the city of Waukee that a major milestone has been reached in the critical Alice's Road Corridor project.

On Tuesday, the Federal Highway Administration formally approved the Interchange Justification Report submitted jointly by the cities of Waukee and West Des Moines. The decision paves the way for the cities to create an interchange on Interstate 80 linking Alice's Road to 105th Street in West Des Moines and will establish a north/south corridor for western metropolitan communities.

The decision also clears the way for full implementation of Waukee's Alice's Road Master Plan, a comprehensive roadmap to ensure Waukee remains a top location to live, work, and raise a family.

"This announcement is a true game changer," Waukee Mayor Bill Peard said. "The Alice's Road Corridor project is an opportunity to transform our city through smart development. The approval of our application means the city of Waukee will be able to attract new businesses and new high-paying jobs while expanding our commercial tax base and better connecting the city to the metro area."

This week's announcement follows news last fall that the city of Waukee received a $5.3 million grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation to develop Alice's Road by funding three of the eventual six lanes on the corridor.

"I don't believe there is a project or initiative here locally that is a higher priority, or one that will have a more positive impact, than the Alice's Road Corridor initiative," Mayor Peard said. "Working together, the entire Waukee community and the dedicated staff at city hall have made incredible progress on this project and this week's announcement is a huge victory."

Peard continued by adding, "I want to thank everyone involved, including the city of West Des Moines, West Des Moines Mayor Steve Gaer, the West Des Moines City Council, Congressman Tom Latham, Senator Tom Harkin, Senator Chuck Grassley, Congressman Leonard Boswell, former Governor Chet Culver, Governor Terry Branstad, the Iowa Department of Transportation Director Paul Trambino and his staff, for helping us reach this point."
