The 6th Annual Penny's Pieathlon will be held in Waukee on Saturday, May 19, from 6:00 a.m. to noon, beginning and ending at the Waukee Family YMCA, 210 N. Warrior Lane. The event begins with the swimming segment at the YMCA pool, then a bike ride along the Raccoon River Valley Trail, Dallas County roads and portions of Hickman Road, and ending with a 5K run on trails and city streets north of Hickman Road and east of the YMCA. Penny's Pieathlon was created by Penny and Dave Milburn in an effort to raise money to fight cancer after Penny lost her mother and aunt to ovarian cancer. The purpose of the event is to have fun, promote healthy activities and raise money to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation, LiveSTRONG, YMCA, John Stoddard Cancer Center and Mercy Cancer Center.
