The public is invited to attend an award ceremony on Thursday, July 12, at noon at the Waukee Public Safety Building (1300 SE L.A. Grant Pkwy.) to recognize and honor members of the Waukee Police and Fire Departments for their role in saving the life of a resident after an explosion. Mayor Bill Peard and the Waukee City Council will give special recognition to Waukee Police Officers William Daggett and Derrick Spoerry.
On May 22, Officers Daggett and Spoerry responded to a call of a house explosion at 775 Cherry Street. Upon arrival, the officers entered the burning building and carried out resident Tracy Petty-Conley, who was unable to vacate the home on her own. The quick thinking and swift action of Officers Daggett and Spoerry saved Petty-Conley's life, preventing a disaster from becoming a tragedy.
The Waukee Police and Fire Departments work in tandem to provide outstanding service and public safety, helping to reinforce the foundation of a strong community.
