If you are moving into a newly constructed home, your initial containers will be delivered to you. Please allow 5 business days for their delivery (excluding weekends and holidays). If your containers have not arrived by your first scheduled garbage day please set out bagged garbage for pick up. If you are moving into an existing home the containers should be left for you by the previous home owner. If not, please contact our office so that one can be delivered to you.
Please place small items that might blow out of your container when emptied, such as packing peanuts, in a bag within the container. You are not limited to the number of items you set out. If you have more than will fit into the toter you may bag it and place it along side. There are special requirements for appliances, furniture and other bulky items.

Garbage collection is one day late after the following holidays, unless the holiday lands on a weekend:
New Years, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day
*Please set items curbside before 7:00 am the day of collection or the night before to ensure pick up.*
What is it? "Single stream" recycling is a program where all recyclable materials (newspapers, magazines, junk mail, telephone books, cardboard, tin & aluminum cans, plastics (#1-#7), and glass jars/bottles are placed into one recycling toter which is picked up every other week on the same day as your current trash pickup. You will receive a 96 gallon toter that is similar to your current 96 gallon garbage toter, except that the lid will be yellow indicating for recycling use.
**Because of the alternating pick-up schedule and increase in the types of recycling material, Waste Management and the City of Waukee are requesting that all customers try the larger tote through several pick-ups before ordering the smaller tote.
Single Stream Recycling participation rates have been high in the first 2 weeks of service. Note the comparison between the curbside recycling program where residents were asked to seperate items and the single stream recycling program where residents are able to comingle recyclable items.

Yard waste materials must be put into biodegradable bags or reusable containers and set at the curb. It is not necessary to purchase expensive yard waste bags at stores in Des Moines. It is possible your cost includes sticker fees for the Des Moines, WDM or Clive yard waste programs. Generic yard bags will work fine.
Sticks, brush and branches must be bundled and cut to 4 ft lengths and bundled (with twine or string) with 50-lb maximum weight per bundle or if they will fit into a small reusable container they will not need to be bundled.
If yard waste is placed in plastic or piled up at the curb without being bundled, it will not be collected.
Pick-up is on Mondays from April through the end of November. Items must be set out the night before or by 7:00 am the day of collection.
The City of Waukee contracts with the Metro Park West Landfill to accept waste generated in our city. The landfill bills the City of Waukee an annual per capita fee for the use of the landfill whether the City or a private entity hires the hauler. This fee is broken down per household and charged on your utility statement as a $2.00 fee.
All residents within the corporate city limits are charged this fee. For City or Waukee garbage customers it is included in their $16.40 monthly fee.
Midwest Country Estates and some condominiums, townhome associations and apartments contract garbage collection for all their residents. They then bill the collection costs in the association dues or rent. Neither the landlord nor the development association are billed the landfill fee; therefore, the fee is not covered by the garbage charges you are paying to them.
