If an inch or more of snow is forecast, Waukee will implement our snow ordinance (Waukee Municipal Code §502.17). If the snow ordinance is put into effect during the overnight hours, consideration will be given to allow citizens time to move their vehicles the next morning.
Every attempt is made to get our streets clear of snow as quickly and safely as possible after a snow storm. Please give consideration to moving your vehicle off the street prior to retiring for the evening or departing for work in the morning when snow is forecast.
The ordinance is announced on the following television and radio stations:
Television: KCCI (8), WHO (13), WOI (5), WAUKEE GOVERNMENT ACCESS CHANNEL (MEDIACOM CABLE CHANNEL 7/DIGITIAL CHANNEL 86)
Radio: WHO, KKDM, KPTL, KXNO, KDRB, KIOA (AM & FM), KRNT (AM & FM), KSTZ, KAZR, KPSZ, KWKY, KJJY, KBGG (AM & FM), KGGO, KLTI, KHKI
If you are issued a violation citation the fine is $25.00 and your vehicle could be impounded. Please contact the Waukee Police Department at 515-987-1073 if you have questions.
Property owners must remove any accumulated snow and ice from the sidewalk within 24 hours after it has stopped snowing (Waukee Municipal Code §218). Also, snow cannot be moved or deposited onto neighboring properties or in public streets. Property owners found to be in violation of this ordinance shall be subject to assessments or fines.
The Waukee Fire Department also asks that property owners move snow from around fire hydrants. Snow around hydrants makes them difficult to locate in an emergency.
The City will make every attempt to keep residents up-to-date with weather-related changes in garbage and recycling pick-up schedules via the City website. If you have questions about your regularly scheduled pick-up, please call Utility Billing at 515-978-5502.
Emergency and weather-related information can be found on City website, Government Access Cable Channel 7/Digital 86, and the television and radio stations listed above under "Snow Ordinance."
The Nixle program allows the Waukee Police Department to instantly connect with residents via text message and e-mail to relay important, neighborhood-level information, such as snow ordinance declarations and winter weather issues. Click here for free registration for this program. If you have any questions on the Nixle program, contact the Waukee Police Department at 515-987-1073.
