blue background with Trout Day at Triumph Park written on itJoin us April 1, 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. to watch the Iowa DNR stock the pond at Triumph Park with beautiful trout! Bring your fishing pole to try to catch some of the new trout. If you're lucky, you'll catch one of eight pre-tagged fish and win one of the prizes generously donated by Scheels and Bass Pro Shops ($20-$110 value).

Entry to the event is FREE, and all ages are invited. The DNR is expected to stock the pond around noon, but come as early as 11:30 a.m. to get your lunch from The Yellow Wagon (cash or card), enjoy free cookies and water from Hy-Vee and grab freebies from the City of Waukee Stormwater and Parks & Recreation tables.

Cast off the shore or our ADA-accessible fishing pier. If you are 16 years or older, you must have a valid fishing license to fish in Waukee, and don't forget your trout stamp.

Make a day of it!

  • Pack a picnic or get lunch from The Yellow Wagon food truck onsite for the event.
  • Learn about how to capture stormwater to improve water quality.
  • Cast a line from the shore or the ADA-accessible pier at Triumph Park; don't forget a cooler to take your catch home!

Preparing to fish

Get all the details on buying a fishing license, Iowa fishing regulations and more on the DNR website. In Waukee, residents and visitors can purchase fishing licenses in-person at Fleet Farm, located at 1300 SE Kettlestone Blvd. Review the fishing rules and regulations for Waukee ponds

Per Iowa's fishing regulations, the daily limit for bluegills is 25. The daily limit for bass is 3, but bass must be at least 15 inches long to keep. Releasing bass back into the waterbody helps maintain healthy fish populations.
