All-Star Sports Camp

This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Each day, participants will be engaged in activities including soccer, flag football, disc golf, kickball, capture the flag, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, lacrosse, yoga and other classic physical education activities. Ages 5 -10 years. Register

Art in the Park

Put on your Picasso painting hat - it’s time to get artistic! Artists will be able to create a variety of age-appropriate masterpieces, including a personalized canvas, a collective group project and a self-portrait. We may get messy, so please have your artist wear appropriate clothing. Ages 5 - 10 years. Register

Bike With Cops - May 26, 2018

The Waukee Police Department is introducing “Bike With Cops” - a new annual bike ride for children in the Waukee Community School District. Children can enjoy a safety talk, two-mile bike ride and lunch with Waukee Police Officers! This is for experienced riders only; no training wheels, please. Helmets are required. Grades 2-6. Register

Cheer Camp

The Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Waukee High School Cheerleading Squad to offer a four-day Cheerleading Camp. This camp will provide girls and boys with an opportunity to learn cheerleading techniques and new cheers. Ages 5 - 10. Register

Courage League Sports

Courage League Sports is an adaptive sports and recreational program for children and adults with special needs - including physical, cognitive, social and emotional challenges. Located in Urbandale and offering year-round programming Monday through Saturday, Courage League Sports provides opportunities for every age group. All ages welcome. Adaptive Sports Days at Centennial Park for ages 5-10 will be held June 9, July 14 and August 11 from 9-10:30 a.m. Please email for more information or to RSVP.

Dickey’s Ryukyu Karate Jiu Jitsu Little Ninjas & Karate

This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of taekwondo and karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind

and body. The instructor, Dickey Renshi has taught martial arts for more than 25 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Class length is 30 minutes, and sessions are ongoing throughout the year. Little Ninjas: ages 4-6. Karate: 6 years and up. Engineering for Kids

The Engineering for Kids mission is to provide fun and educational programs to children to inspire them to pursue careers in engineering. Let’s inspire children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. Engineering is one of the fastest growing industries in the world!

  • In Engineering Cities, campers will explore civil, electrical, industrial and environmental engineering. They will work hands-on with various activities which replicate energy production, water filtration and building structures.
  • In Out of this World, campers will explore the fields of aerospace,
    civil and chemical engineering. They will work to design and
    construct a variety of projects which will enable mankind to safely
    go out of this world.

Explore the Outdoors and More

Get away from the electronics and back into nature! This camp will include nature play in different parks and creek beds, activities that help children relate with natural elements and a field trip to the Kuehn Conservation Center. Join us for an exciting week of nature, fun and learning. Ages 5 - 10 years. Register

Home Alone Awareness - April 7, 2018

Thinking of leaving your child at home alone this summer? Make sure they are safe! This class is taught by the Waukee Police and Fire Departments. They will provide educational tools and safety tips to help keep your child safe and aware of dangers in and around your house. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Grades K - 5. Register

Hy-Vee Kids Cook - July 26, 2018

Enjoy this hands-on cooking class taught by Waukee Hy-Vee Dietitian Paige Hoyle, and learn to prepare three recipes you can dunk, dip or dollop with delicious finger foods! Grades 5 - 8. Register

ISU Extension and Outreach Programs

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach connects the research and resources from Iowa State University to meet the needs of, and improve the lives of, Iowans. The youth development programming focuses on everything from science, engineering,

environment and creative arts to nutrition, photography, animals, citizenship and leadership.

  • Dive into the world of entrepreneurship with LEGOs with Building Blocks of Entrepreneurship June 4-5! Those in grades 4-8 will create a new idea, develop a plan and share results through creativity, innovation and communication. Participants will work in teams to develop an idea for making their community a better place to live. Using LEGOs, teams will work together to build a model, create a presentation poster and market their idea.
  • Eating healthy and having cooking skills go hand in hand. With Kids in the Kitchen, those in grades K-4 will have the opportunity to prepare and taste healthy foods while learning about healthy eating and physical activity June 25-26. They will also take away food and kitchen safety knowledge. Preparing inexpensive and easy recipes is a blast!

Kids in Harmony Music for the Young Child

Kids in Harmony classes will get you exploring musical play with your child! We strive to build confidence, develop academic and motor skills, and further communication skills in this developmentally focused music class. Reap the benefits at home after sharing this bonding time with your child! Classes are taught by music therapists who provide quality live music and are fully inclusive of children of all abilities. Red Cross Babysitting Training - June 8 or August 15, 2018

Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class and gain life experience by practicing babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. Participants must be 11 years old and need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit. Ages 11 years & upRegister

Rounded Minds Spanish Language Introduction

Rounded Minds offers unique programming focused on building strong bodies and minds while providing benefits of natural bilingual learning at an early age. Every Rounded Minds class is designed and led by attentive experts committed to providing safe, energetic, creative and fun educational experiences. All programs are bilingual programs which offer children experiences in sports without the threat of competition. Basic skills and fun games will reinforce listening, teamwork and the joy of being active. Spanish-Immersion Soccer is offered for ages 3-7. Tumbling as well as Sports Exploration are offered for ages 3-6. Register

Splish-Splash Camp

Cool off this summer and travel to three different greater metro area aquatic centers. Make sure to pack sunscreen, a towel, goggles and snack money. Participants will be transported by the Parks & Recreation staff during camp. Ages 8 - 12 years. Register

Storytime in the Park - August 2, 7 & 9, 2018 at 9 a.m.

The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department partners with the Waukee Public Library to offer this FREE program to young bookworms at the Windfield Park Open Shelter. Enjoy themed story books including cats, bugs, rainy days and transportation followed by a different craft or activity each day after the stories. Please bring a tricycle or bicycle on August 9 for a short ride along the Storywalk. If you are a daycare center planning to attend, please call 515-978-0007 so staff can ensure the proper amount of supplies are provided. All ages welcome. Story will be geared toward children 5 years old and younger.


Take an adventure with a story this spring and summer! The Waukee Public Library and the Parks & Recreation Department have joined together to promote literature and exercise. Enjoy a different book each month displayed along the Heart of the Warrior Trail between 6th Street and the intersection of Ashworth Drive, Northview Drive and Warrior Lane. All ages welcome.

Studio Bea Dance 2 to Move

This 30-minute class is designed for parents and their little dancers to bond while having fun in an introductory dance class environment. Dancers will gain confidence, and they will improve social and gross motor skills, all while using their imagination to learn and explore dance and movement. Children ages 18 months through 3 years old are invited to register for this program. A parent or guardian must accompany each child as they will take an active role in their dancer’s skill development. Register

Summer Fun Camp

Join us for an action packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy field trips and playing games and activities in the park for a total of five days of camp with lots of activities to enjoy. Ages 8 - 13 years. Register

Sunflower Fine Art

Children will learn the basic concepts of drawing three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional paper. Concentrate on basic shapes including cubes, spheres and cones at the beginning. Eventually the students will learn to draw still life objects based on a step-by-step process. The classes will help to improve patience, observation and creativity. Ages 7 and up. Register

Super Snackers

Waukee’s next top chef might be in your own house — let us help you find out! Chefs will learn new, fun and healthy summer snack ideas they can make any time of the year. Ages 7-13. Register

Teams of Tomorrow (TOT) Creative Basketball Ball Handling & Dribbling

Join us for TOT’s Dino Camp! TOT is a creative ball handling and dribbling program for 3-5 year olds. It uses music, academic enrichment and basketballs to improve physical and mental growth. We take the basket out of basketball and focus on individual accomplishments. In this summer session we will also learn about dinosaurs! Ages 3-5 years. Register

Tot Lot

Romp, stomp and play! We have the set-up to meet your children’s activity and social needs. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun. This is a non-structured activity. Tot Lot is held during the colder months of the year. Its last session was held March 30. Look for fall and winter dates later this year. Toddlers welcome.

Tumbling Tots

This 30-minute, developmental play program is a very basic beginning program for little ones designed to get them exploring large motor movements in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. Ages 2 - 3 years. Register

Tumbling Tots 2

This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions. They will improve upon their tumbling skills and movements, coordination, strength and balance, by learning somersaults, front flips, back flips and more. Ages 4 - 5 years. Register

Waukee Adaptive Sports Day at Centennial Park

Enjoy a morning of activities specifically designed for those with special needs. Courage League’s program staff will be leading some of your favorite field games adapted to the skill level of participants. We guarantee a fun-filled morning of play and socialization. Youth in the Parks

This week-long service learning camp gives participants a chance to learn about community betterment by volunteering at various locations in Waukee and surrounding areas.
