Gather with friends at the Waukee Community Center and test your luck the first Friday of each month from 1-2:30 p.m. after the library’s Lunch and Learn program. Bingo will take place March-November. No registration is required.
Lunch & Learn
No time to attend an evening or weekend program? Try the library’s new Lunch & Learn series! A different speaker will educate attendees the first Friday of the month at the Waukee Community Center from March 1-Aug. 2. Bring your brown bag lunch, and we will provide the dessert. This program will start at 11 a.m. Stick around afterward for bingo at 1 p.m.! No registration is required.
Movie Matinee in the Miner’s
Head to the Waukee Public Library the second Thursday of every month for a different movie on the big screen. Enjoy everything from major blockbusters to classics. All movies are free with refreshments available. Movies start at 10 a.m. No registration is required.
World War I Museum/Kansas City Day Trip
On Wednesday, May 1 visit America’s official WWI Museum and Memorial, home to the most comprehensive collection of WWI objects in the world. The Liberty Memorial Association (LMA) was created shortly after World War I as a lasting monument to the men and women who served in the war. The fee includes transportation, a tour at the museum and lunch. Please bring additional money for the evening dinner stop.
The Liberty Memorial Tower has a 217-foot-high, open-air observation deck where you can view Kansas City for a perspective up high. To reach the top of the Tower, guests ride an elevator and climb 45 steps. There is an additional charge of $2 to visit the top of the Tower. This option must be selected and paid for during registration. Register
Kalona—Iowa’s Amish and Mennonite Community Day Trip
Tour the Amish countryside on Wednesday, May 29 and learn about the basic beliefs of the Mennonite faith and how it has evolved over the years. Participants will visit the Kalona Buggy Shop to discover what goes into the construction of hand-made buggies, watch the creation of handmade confections at a family-owned candy shop and do some shopping at Stringtown Grocery. Lunch will consist of a homecooked, family style meal in a Mennonite home. The fee includes transportation, lunch and all admissions. Register
Art-rageous Adventures in Fort Dodge Day Trip
Journey alongside the Des Moines River as you spend a day enjoying all the art, culture and food Fort Dodge has to offer! View superb art displays at Iowa’s first permanent art museum – the Blanden Art Museum, then follow that up with some art-making of your own at Studio Fusion. Lunch will be held at the upscale, yet friendly restaurant Tea Thyme. In the afternoon, participants will visit a 110-foot grain silo which was turned into a massive mural by Australian-born artist Guido van Helten as well as the Community Orchard where a tour, shopping and warm apple pie await. The trip will be on Wednesday, Sept. 18. from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. The fee includes transportation, lunch and art-making supplies (upgrades available). Register
Iowa State Fair - August 14, 2019
Do you like taste-testing everything on a stick or seeing the Butter Cow and all of the other buttery creations at the Iowa State Fair? How about strolling through the homemade crafts and quilts? Take a trip to the 2019 Iowa State Fair for Older Iowan Day. You won’t have to worry about fighting traffic because the bus will drop the group off inside the gates right next to Ye Old Mill. Register
