The Waukee Public Library’s Summer Reading Program wrapped up on July 31 with record participation! There were 2,092 children, 513 teens and 644 adults who participated in the program this June and July. That’s 1,258 more participants than in the summer of 2018. This is the largest increase in the program’s history. Participants tracked reading times and turned in logs for prizes. They also enjoyed space/NASA-themed events to commemorate Apollo 11’s 50th anniversary and the theme of the program – “Explore the Universe”. Events such as Space Sensory Play, a “Toy Story” Movie Marathon, Astronaut Training Camp and Space Warrior Academy helped to increase interest in the program and engage with participants. The Winter Reading Program will kick off Nov. 15.
