Election Filing Period Opens Monday, Aug. 26

The 2019 City/School Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5. Waukee residents interested in running for one of two Waukee City Council positions or the seat of Mayor are welcome to submit affidavits and nomination petitions beginning August 26. These positions all have four-year terms beginning January 1, 2020 and ending December 31, 2023. Here is some information on the nomination process:

  • Waukee follows Code of Iowa Chapter 45 for elections.
  • There is no ward system for the City of Waukee; all Council members are elected at-large.
  • City elections are non-partisan.
  • Candidates must submit at least 25 signatures on nomination petitions.
  • The filing period for affidavits and nomination petitions is Aug. 26 through Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. Papers must be filed with the Dallas County Office of Elections at 210 N. 10th Street, Adel.

Nominations for City office shall be filed with the Dallas County Commissioner of Elections. Affidavits of Candidacy and Nomination Petitions will not be accepted by the City Clerk. To obtain candidate forms, contact the Dallas County Office of Elections.
