Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the Waukee Public Library, the American Library Association and libraries across the country unite in a national effort to ensure everyone sign up for their own library card. Also, the Waukee Public Library will be offering free replacement cards all month (they are normally $1 to replace), and the library has new card colors from which patrons can choose!
Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back to school supplies available.

Anyone age 5 and older can sign up for a free library card! Stop by the Waukee Public Library at 950 Warrior Lane in Waukee to sign up. Adults need to bring a photo ID.
