Library to Offer Curbside Pickup Beginning June 1

Curbside Library

UPDATE: See more details about curbside pickup beginning June.

A note from the Waukee Public Library:

Dear library patrons,

Starting June 1, 2020, the Waukee Public Library will start offering scheduled curbside pickup of library books and materials by appointment and will start accepting returns on a limited basis. All due dates have been extended to July 1, 2020. Our staff will be in the building filling requests and delivering them to patrons at scheduled times from the library’s front entrance. I ask for your patience as we change our entire way of offering library services for the foreseeable future.

We have developed a reopening plan with several phases. This plan was developed by myself, the Library Board of Trustees and library staff, along with support from the City of Waukee and the Waukee City Council.

As it is safe to do so, we will continue our phased approach until we are able to open to normal service levels. Please know we anticipate that this may take a long time depending on the community spread of COVID-19. We will not be open to the public as we were previously. We will offer limited library services now, then expand those services when the public health crisis is mitigated and we can ensure a safe environment for patrons and staff within the library building.

The Waukee Public Library is vibrant and busy on a daily basis. During typical summer days, more than 500 patrons visit our building and we check out about 650 books. We provide close, in-person assistance and offer an environment where patrons are encouraged to spend time. For these reasons, we remain closed to the public at this time in order to help limit the community spread of the COVID-19 virus.

We are dedicated to keeping our library staff and patrons safe and healthy. Thank you for your patience with this process. We are excited to be serving the Waukee community again, and we look forward to providing you with library books and materials.

We will provide more information in the coming weeks as we finalize our procedures. Please continue to watch our online programming and use our online resources. Please also sign up for the Summer Reading Program which our fabulous library staff has worked so hard on and revised to be online and from home this year. We look forward to a fantastic summer with you all.

Be well, Waukee!

Waukee Public Library Director
