The City of Waukee’s Development Services Department issued a record number of building permits during Fiscal Year 2020. From July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, the City issued 1,531 building permits with a total valuation of $214.8 million. The number of permits nearly doubles last fiscal year’s total of 898 permits.
The breakdown of FY 2020 permit totals included:
Single-family home construction is up, with Waukee’s new Spring Crest and Stratford Crossing developments making up a large portion of the 267 permits. Both developments are located in western Waukee. Three big projects also sent townhome numbers skyrocketing to 449 permits. Those include Stratford Crossing Townhomes, Commons at Greenway Crossing and Redwood Phase II.
“We are thrilled to see various types of housing being built in the community,” said Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke. “Providing affordable housing is something the Waukee City Council Members and I are prioritizing as we look to the future. Having more townhome options and some smaller single-family lots in Stratford Crossing is a good start to diversifying housing.”
Commercial building permit numbers continue to be strong as well; permits totaled $28.4 million in FY 2020. Some recent and ongoing commercial construction highlights include:
“Projects in the Kettlestone Development are thriving right now, especially in the office sector,” said Mayor Clarke. “We also continue to see new personal and professional services set up shop throughout Waukee which is great as they provide more personal and professional services, retail opportunities, dining options and more for Waukee residents and visitors.”
Later this year, developers are expected to reveal more details about a future entertainment district in Waukee’s Kettlestone Development.
