The City of Waukee's Stormwater Department provides an opportunity for Waukee residents to improve their properties and reduce stormwater runoff while offsetting some of the costs through the Stormwater Grant Program. Reimbursements are available for eligible projects that help improve local watersheds, decrease flash flooding and improve water quality. Grants must be approved and awarded prior to construction work commencing. Grants will not be awarded for work that has already started or been completed.

Eligible projects include:

  • Installation of a drain tile in a wet yard.
  • Measures to prevent erosion, including expense for a contractor to place bank reinforcement.
  • Professional engineering services for the design of a stormwater best management practice.
  • Best management practices such as soil quality restoration, rain gardens, bio-retention cells and native landscaping
  • Rain barrels

The Stormwater Grant Program uses a portion of the Stormwater Utility Fees to assist with stormwater management on private property. All properties located within the corporate limits of the City of Waukee that pay the Stormwater Utility Fee are eligible to apply for funding. The program does not cover repairs to homes or interior work, only exterior work.
