Community organizations are welcome to submit events to the City of Waukee Events Calendar from the “Add Event” button on the homepage. The City encourages submission of events which cater to the whole community such as pancake breakfasts, free concerts, ribbon cuttings and so on. The Events Calendar is not intended to promote private programming or sales initiatives, or to support a political party or candidate. The City has the right to decline any calendar submissions.

    Emphasis will be placed on mind flexibility and balance, as well as self confidence and breath control. This class is based on physical postures (asanas), breathing, awareness and listening to the body. Respect for the entire self, mind, body and soul.     You won’t be bored in this event that is part choose your own adventure, part life-sized board game, part Adulting 101, and 100% fun. For students who will be entering 6-12th grades in the fall. Registration is required and will open 3 weeks prior to the event. Unregistered participants are welcome to come to the library on stand-by the day of the event and will be admitted to the program if space allows.

  7. Fox Creek Park and Splash Pad Ribbon Cutting

    June 25, 2019, 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM @ Fox Creek Park

    New amenities in Waukee’s Fox Creek Park will open on Tuesday, June 25, following a 5:30 p.m. ribbon cutting event. Members of the public are welcome to attend the event and stay after to explore the park, which features the community’s first splash pad! In addition to the highly anticipated splash pad, Phase 2 improvements include the addition of a new tennis court, four Pickleball courts and an indoor shelter building with an 80-person capacity. Fox Creek Park’s new, non-traditional play area features a climbing wall and rope climb, as well as a unique “in-hill” slide and tunnel system.

  9. Elementary Coding: Finch Avoids Asteroids

    June 26, 2019, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Waukee Public Library

    All coding classes will use the Scratch programming language to control Finch robots. No prior coding experience is necessary. Students entering 3rd-5th grades in the fall will work in pairs with library staff and teen volunteers. These robots and programs are made possible by a grant from Birdbrain Technologies, LLC. www.birdbraintechnologies.com Registration is required and will open 3 weeks prior to the event. In this lesson, students will use Finch robots as rocket ships and program them to “fly” to all of the planets in our solar system.

Games, crafts, activities and fun for all ages will be provided free of charge.

    The City of Waukee, the Nature Conservancy in Iowa, Waukee Aspiring Professional Experience (APEX) and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) are supporting Solarize Waukee - the bulk solar group purchase program for residents and businesses located anywhere within the Waukee Community School District boundaries; this covers Waukee and portions of West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale. The program will provide residents and businesses with the opportunity to invest in their own high-quality renewable energy solar installations with potential savings on installation cost, while also helping businesses reach sustainability goals. Attend this free, informational session about solar energy and Solarize Waukee! No registration is required.

  18. Capes for Cornerstone Bike Ride

    CAPES FOR CORNERSTONE JUNE 29TH, 11AM-5PM You can be a SUPERHERO!!! Please join us for our first ever, fundraising bike ride for Cornerstone of Hope Orphanage. The route will start at Mickey's Irish Pub in Waukee with stops at Rookies Sports Bar and Grill and 515 Brewing Company in Clive. The ride is approximately 16 miles round trip. Registration is $20 per rider. There we be contests, raffles and lots of drink specials. Registration: 11am at Mickey's 50 SE Laurel St, Waukee Ride Start: Noon Ending Celebration/Program: 4pm at Mickey's Riders must be 21 years or older but friends and family are welcome to join us at the closing celebration/ceremony Mickey's at approximately 4pm. All profits from this event will benefit the children of Cornerstone of Hope Orphanage. We hope you will be join us for this great cause.     The Midwest has a rich history of UFO and Alien encounters. Each year hundreds of people witness something in the sky that they can't explain. Even more bizarre are those who believe they have come face to face with extraterrestrial beings. Paranormal Researcher Chad Lewis explores some of the most bizarre UFO encounters the Midwest has to offer. Filled with eyewitness encounters, historical sightings, and on-site investigations, this presentation presents the audience with stories of UFOs buzzing over crop circles, a Sheriff's bizarre run in with a hovering craft, a family being abducted against their will, and many more encounters.
