Community organizations are welcome to submit events to the City of Waukee Events Calendar from the “Add Event” button on the homepage. The City encourages submission of events which cater to the whole community such as pancake breakfasts, free concerts, ribbon cuttings and so on. The Events Calendar is not intended to promote private programming or sales initiatives, or to support a political party or candidate. The City has the right to decline any calendar submissions.

If you’ve been wanting to join a book club but are not sure you’re up for the time commitment or the people-ing—this is the book club for you. Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Copies of each month’s book may be picked up on the first of the month at the library’s front desk, while supplies last.   2. Library Art Gallery Exhibit: "Welcome to My World" by Robert D. Peterson

    Fine art prints by Cedar Rapids, Iowa artist Robert D. Peterson covers a broad range of subjects and techniques. Landscapes, barns, lighthouses, violins, penguins, and international subjects are some of the themes used. Many intaglio printmaking techniques are used by Mr. Peterson, these include: etching, engraving, drypoint, mezzotint, woodcut, and wood engraving. Robert’s many travels through the back roads of the USA and abroad gives never ending inspiration to his printmaking.

  3. Hummus, Baba Ghanouj & More: A Taste of Syria

    Join Ghinwa Alameen, the writer behind SyrianCooking.com, as she highlights the vibrant, aromatic, and diverse flavors of the Middle East. This class will provide an introduction to the Syrian cuisine and its main ingredients, including where to purchase ingredients in the Des Moines area. Attendees will make and taste several dips and spreads—like smoky baba ghanoush, muhamara, and hummus. Each of these healthy and refreshing dips are vegetarian and can also be made vegan and gluten-free! Registration Required.
