The Waukee Police Department is proud to announce the hiring of new officer, Scott Kinney. Waukee City Clerk Becky Schuett swore Officer Kinney in to his new position on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Waukee Public Safety Building. Kinney’s hiring brings the Waukee PD’s roster to a total of 20 sworn officers.

Officer Kinney is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He spent more than two decades employed by Anderson Erickson Dairy. A calling to work in public safety drew Kinney to start as a Reserve Police Officer for the Pleasant Hill Police Department in 2014. After working for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy and graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in August of this year, Officer Kinney was hired by the Waukee Police Department.

“We are thrilled to have Officer Kinney on our team because he is a hard-working and trustworthy individual,” said Waukee Police Chief John Quinn. “The Waukee PD’s calls for service have doubled in the last decade from 4,678 in 2006 to 8,314 in 2016. We definitely need him here to help with growing responses to the Waukee community.”

Two more officers are currently going through training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. They will be sworn in as well following graduation.
