On Thursday, April 25, the Waukee Park Board recognized the Parks & Recreation Department’s Volunteers of the Year.
The recipients include:
- Youth Volunteer – Erin Crone
- Special Events Volunteer – Jerry Crone
- Service Group – Jim Miller and Randy Jensen
- Business Groups
- Waukee Triangle Businesses
- DECRA Roofing Systems & Worth Exteriors
- Youth Sports Volunteer – Dana Owens

Both Erin (first photo) and Jerry Crone (second photo) spent countless hours working at Parks & Rec events. They assisted with candy and eggs at the Easter Egg Hunt, set up equipment at Movies in the Park, scared people at the Haunted House and much more to add value to the event visitors’ experiences.

Jim Miller and Randy Jensen were the leaders in raising more than a million dollars and working with RDG to design and construct the now popular Waukee Railroad Pergola art installation at the Raccoon River Valley Trail’s Waukee Trailhead. Miller is the President of the Waukee Betterment Foundation.

The Waukee Triangle Businesses consisting of Waukee United Methodist Church, Waukee Hardware, Heartland Co-op, Classic Foral and the Waukee Ice Cream Shoppe often support Parks & Rec initiatives such as planning and participating in WinterFest, and hosting the Easter Coloring Contest.

DECRA Roofing Systems and Worth Exteriors approached the Parks & Recreation Department in 2018 offering to replace the Downtown Triangle Gazebo’s roofing with no project cost to the City. Materials were donated by DECRA, and labor was provided by Worth Exteriors.

Dana Owens spends a lot of time volunteering her time to coach youth sports in Waukee. She has been a great role model for kids in Recreational Softball, Little Kickers Soccer and the Youth Basketball Clinic.
Thanks so much to all of our volunteers! You truly help the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department elevate its events, festivals, facilities and programs.
