In 2020, Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course is celebrating its 20th anniversary! It first opened in 2000 as a private course and was purchased by the City of Waukee in 2005 as City officials saw potential for more outdoor recreation in the community. Each year, the 9-hole, Par 34 course welcomes residents and visitors mid-March through mid-November for nearly 23,000 rounds of golf! In addition to the winding nine holes of the course, Sugar Creek is also home to a recently updated practice facility which includes a driving range, putting green and chipping area.
"Sugar Creek Golf Course is a great outdoor amenity the City is able to offer the public," said Waukee Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier. "Staff members really take pride in the quality of the course. And, I think what makes it so popular is that it’s appealing to people of all ages and skills. It’s not out of reach for beginners, yet it provides a fun challenge for seasoned golfers as well."
Fans of the course enjoy additional options at Sugar Creek ranging from golf leagues to instructional camps to private/semi-private instruction from a PGA Golf Professional.
