1. How do I report a gas smell?: If you smell gas, and it is a slight odor, leave the premises. Do not shut off light switches or appliances. Once you are safely away from the home, call Gas Emergency at 515-249-1212 from a mobile phone or neighbor's phone.

2. What do I do if a carbon monoxide detector goes off?: Call 515-222-3321 and the Waukee Fire Department will be dispatched to your home or place of business.

3. How do I get a pilot light lit?: During business hours (M-F from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.), contact the Public Works Department at 515-978-7920 or the Emergency 24-Hour On-Call phone at 515-249-1212. Qualified personnel will be dispatched to light the pilot.

4. How do I get gas service turned on?: Existing Home - Contact Utility Billing at 515-978-5502.
New Construction - Once an inside pressure test has been inspected and passed with the Code Compliance Inspectors and has been hard piped from the house to the meter and bonded, contact the Public Works Office at 515-978-7920 to schedule a pin pull and turn on. The Gas Department will perform a 5-minute no-flow check on the meter; if it passes, the meter will remain turned on. If it fails, the Gas Department will turn off and lock the meter.
