[ARCHIVED] Library Will Rock With Summer Reading Program

library spr 2018 web

“Rock & Read” at the Waukee Public Library this summer! All ages of children, teens and adults can read or listen to books and earn prizes from June 1-July 31 with the annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme – “Rock & Read” – is focused on music, though participants do not have to be musically gifted to enjoy it. There will be many fun programs and events held throughout the summer.

“Summer reading helps students retain and improve reading skills, and it helps keep adult minds fresh as well,” said Youth Services Librarian Keri Weston-Stoll. “We think by providing incentives and fun activities related to reading, we can help encourage reading enjoyment for those of all ages.”

Reading logs can be picked up at the library, located at 950 Warrior Lane in Waukee. Or, participants may also register and log hours online at waukeelibrary.beanstack.org.

While registration is occurring now, people can also sign up for the Summer Reading Program on Friday, June 1 during the “Reading Rocks in Waukee” event. Members of the public are invited to stop by the Waukee Public Library either from 10-11 a.m. or from 4-5 p.m. to paint a rock and sign up for the program. This is a come-and-go event. Participants are encouraged to put the rocks on display somewhere out in the Waukee community.

This free program is made possible with generous support from mi-fiber, LLC. A full list of Summer Reading Program events can be found at waukeepubliclibrary.org.
