Spring Clean-Up Week
Each spring, the City of Waukee's solid waste provider Ankeny Sanitation/ASI designates dates for Spring Clean-Up Week, during which customers are welcome to place as many large or bulky garbage items on the curb on their typical collection days. Household hazardous waste, appliance, tire and electronics drop-off is available the following Saturday for free disposal services. The Citywide Garage Sale is also typically scheduled weekend before Curbside Clean-Up week. Learn more about year-round large item, hazardous waste, appliance and tire disposal. For items in good condition, consider donating to a local organization or putting it up for free on a community swap group on Facebook.
2026 Dates
Annual Citywide Garage Sale: Saturday, April 25, 2026
This is not a City of Waukee-sponsored event, but it is a designated day for residents to join many others in hosting garage sales at their Waukee homes if they choose to do so. There is no facilitated flyer or website to track garage sales; however, Facebook Marketplace is often used to promote them.
Curbside Spring Clean-Up: April 27-May 1, 2026
Household Hazardous Waste, Electronics, Appliance and Tire Drop-Off Day: May 2, 2026
Curbside Spring Clean-Up
Curbside pick-up will be held on City garbage/recycling customers’ typical Monday-Friday collection days from April 27-May 1, 2026. This is a great opportunity to get rid of bulky waste like furniture, electronics and other large items up to five feet in length. Please place items on the curb by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day. Curbside pick-up does not apply to those living in neighborhood associations and apartment complexes with private trash collection. Talk to your property manager or HOA board. For any garbage, recycling or yard waste questions, please call ASI at 515-964-5229.
The following items will not be accepted at the curb for free:
- Appliances; see appliance information for our free disposal day
- Broken-up concrete, asphalt or demolition materials
- Fully assembled basketball hoops, but you can dismantle them into small pieces for curbside collection
- Hazardous materials; see Household Hazardous Waste Collection information below for items you can drop at the free disposal day
- Loose shingles and lumber
- Anything longer than five feet; call ASI with questions about long items
- Paint; latex paint can be dried out and placed in garbage bins, but all other paint can be dropped off at the free disposal day
- Propane tanks
- Tires
- Yard Waste is collected at the curb on Mondays from April through November.

Household Hazardous Waste
We are partnering with Metro Waste Authority to take items, such as acid, rechargeable batteries, oil, antifreeze, lawn fertilizer, pesticides, pool chemicals, oil-based paints or aerosols, that should not be placed in the garbage. Drop them at this event, and MWA will safely dispose of these items for free. Download a flyer for a handy reference on what items qualify for the hazardous waste drop off.
Note: Sharps must be contained in detergent bottles or sharps containers (not milk jugs or soda pop bottles). Lids to sharps containers must be taped.
The following items will not be accepted at this site:
- Ammunition and explosives
- Asbestos
- Dry cement mix
- Fire extinguishers
- Joint compound
- Latex paint (can be dried out and placed in regular garbage bins)
- Medications
- Propane tanks or cylinders
- Radioactive materials
To safely dispose of medications, access the Drug Dropbox located at the Waukee Public Safety Building at 815 NW 20th Street, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To donate medication for use by Iowans in need of assistance, call the Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation at 1-866-282-5817.
Appliances
Appliances must be cleared of food, household hazardous waste and garbage prior to drop-off. Accepted items include washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, furnaces, water heaters, stoves, etc.
Tires
Up to five car tires may be dropped off free of charge. The drop-off fee for each additional car tire will cost $1, and semi-truck and tractor tire drop-offs will cost $5 a piece. Cash only. Rims will not be accepted.
Electronics Recycling
The City is partnering with Electronic Asset Security to help you keep your electronics waste out of the landfill. Drop laptops, TVs, keyboards, speakers, printers, routers, phones, e-readers, CRTs, TVs and more for free. All data-containing devices will have data cleared. Alternatively, electronics are accepted in the weekly garbage collections or on the curb during clean-up week. Your data will not be wiped off devices left on the curb. Learn more about EAS recycling practices here.
If your computer, tablet or smart phone is still in good condition, consider donating it to the Best Buddies program instead. The devices are distributed to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Find the details on what's accepted at ElectronicAssetSecurity.com/Our-Community. Be sure to remove your Microsoft, Google or Apple accounts and anything else tied to your device before donating it. When you come to drop-off day, let the staff at the Electronics drop point know that your devices should go to the Best Buddies program. Or drop it off during regular business hours at the EAS office in Urbandale and tell them it's for the Best Buddies program.
