National home security and safety company SafeWise recently released its 20 safest cities in Iowa report for 2019, and Waukee made the cut at number 13! To identify the 20 cities with the best safety records, SafeWise analysts looked at the number of violent crimes reported in the 2017 FBI Unified Crime Report, the most recent data available. They also calculated the number of violent crime incidents per 1,000 people in each city. Carroll was ranked first on the list.
The SafeWise report notes that Iowa’s violent crime rate of 3.85 incidents per 1,000 people is below the national average of 4.49. Waukee's violet crime rate came in low at 1.52 per 1,000 residents. The property crime rate is 11.69 per 1,000 residents. Waukee's current estimated population is 23,000. The national average for property crime is estimated to be 23.62 per 1,000 residents.
