The City of Waukee's snow ordinance is in effect from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3 through 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4.

When an inch or more of snow is forecast, Waukee will implement its snow ordinance. Parking is not allowed on city streets when the snow ordinance is in effect. Property owners must remove any accumulated snow and ice from the sidewalk within 24 hours after it has stopped snowing or they may receive a $25 fine.

In addition, snow cannot be moved or deposited onto neighboring properties or in public streets. Property owners found to be in violation of this ordinance may be subject to assessments or fines.

The Waukee Fire Department also asks that property owners move snow from around fire hydrants. Snow around hydrants makes them difficult to locate in an emergency.

The City of Waukee is using a web-based service called Nixle to provide emergency alerts and community notices, including when a snow ordinance goes into effect. Signing up for the service is free and easy. Visit www.nixle.com to have alerts sent directly to your phone or email. You can also check the City website, the City Facebook or the City Twitter feed for snow ordinance alerts and more.
