UPDATE: Waukee’s Fox Creek Splash Pad and adjacent playground will both reopen and resume regular daily hours beginning Friday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. Application of a rubberized, non-skid coating was applied and allowed to cure as a way to enhance the splash pad surface. Users are reminded to review the posted rules at Fox Creek Park. The City of Waukee thanks citizens for their patience while the splash pad and playground were closed during surfacing work.
PRIOR: Several days after closing the Fox Creek Splash Pad following a fall on July 5, the City of Waukee now has a plan to add additional texture to the splash pad concrete. The City will begin work to enhance the Fox Creek Splash Pad concrete on July 12. Both the splash pad and the playground will be closed due to construction and the safety of park users while workers are in the area.
“After further assessments of the splash pad this week by staff, contractors and design professionals, it has been concluded that the splash pad surface is consistent with applicable design specifications and standards, as well as those at other similar splash pads across the country,” said Waukee Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier.
While the splash pad surface meets and/or exceeds applicable standards for splash pad construction, the City is still going to enhance the amenity by adding a rubberized, non-skid coating product to the concrete.
“We thank the public for their patience as we reviewed Fox Creek Splash Pad,” Jermier said. “Once reopened, we will continue to encourage users to follow the posted splash pad rules which include no running or rough play, the requirement of adult supervision and so on.”
The splash pad will remain closed indefinitely to allow time for product arrival, application and curing.
