[ARCHIVED] School Area Traffic Reminders

The Waukee Police Department is sharing several reminders regarding traffic and safety concerns in school areas. With fewer students riding buses this school year, there are more people dropping off, driving, walking and biking to school. Please keep the following in mind to increase safety near Waukee Community School District buildings:

Waukee Middle School

  • Stopping in the travel portion of the road is illegal. (321.354 Stopping on Traveled Way)
  • Vehicles are passing on opposing traffic during dangerous circumstances. (321.304 Prohibited passing)
  • Parents are also letting their children out on the travel portion of the road.
  • Please be patient as district officials and building administrators work on better options as to traffic flow and where to drive through to safely pick up and drop off children.

Timberline School

Traffic backing all the way to Ashworth Road.

Please be courteous and respectful of other vehicles and pedestrians.

  • There currently are not any traffic measures to help buses and personal vehicles merge back on to SE L.A. Grant Parkway from Timberline.
  • This is currently being discussed with City of Waukee officials.
  • Please consider alternating vehicles while entering and exiting on to SE L.A. Grant Parkway to help reduce risky decisions some drivers are making in order to get back on the road.

Prairieview School

  • Parents/guardians/drivers need to be aware that there is no stopping on the travel portion of SE University Ave. (321.354 Stopping on Traveled Way)
  • It is known that traffic has greatly increased and traffic at times is backed up to Alice’s Road.
  • Please follow the school’s drop off and pick up plan and understand that if you cannot use those routes, stopping on SE University Ave is not a legal or safe option.

The Waukee Police Department is dedicated to the safety and well-being of residents, Waukee students and parents at all times. Please help us keep everyone safe. Police officers will be visible and will be enforcing traffic laws. Thank you for understanding this very critical part of our children’s safety.
