[ARCHIVED] Waukee Police to Offer Citizens Academy Again

The Waukee Police Department is proud to continue its Citizens Academy to Waukee business partners and residents. The Citizens Academy classes will take place on Thursday evenings from Jan. 13 through March 24, 2022 (no class March 30). The 30-hour block of instruction is designed to give members of the public a working knowledge of the practices, policies and procedures governing the PD. The Academy consists of 10 weekly three-hour sessions.

“We have had great citizen responses to this program, so we are thrilled to bring it back after a year without,” said Sgt. Mackenzie Sposeto. “We look forward to a new group this year and being able to provide another inside look at the Waukee Police Department in an engaging and impactful way.”

The Academy’s sessions have been designed to incorporate an interactive format with hands-on experiences whenever practical. Instructors are certified police officers, supervisors and other personnel with expertise in various areas.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • History of the Waukee Police Department
  • Police professional standards and ethics
  • Community policing
  • Interview/interrogation process
  • Crime scene and evidence
  • Narcotic investigations and search warrants
  • OWI investigations and drug influence evaluation
