Waukee Police Officer Robert Gitzen was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on Monday, Apr. 17, 2017. Waukee City Clerk Becky Schuett swore Sergeant Gitzen in to his new rank in a ceremony held that morning at the Waukee Public Safety Building. He has served with the Waukee Police Department since July 2015.
Sergeant Gitzen is a Valley High School (West Des Moines) and Kaplan University graduate with a Criminal Justice degree. He joined the U.S. Army in 2005 and is a member of the Army Reserves still today. He was deployed twice to Iraq and currently holds the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant.
In 2012, Sergeant Gitzen graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and worked with the Hampton Police Department from 2012-2015. With the Waukee PD, he is a Defensive Tactics instructor and as a member of SERT (Special Emergency Response Team).
