Hire an Off Duty Police Officer
Waukee police officers can be requested to work at events or venues during off-duty hours. Submit your request for an off-duty officer detail online through Extra Duty Solutions (EDS). If you need assistance with an off-duty request, an EDS support representative is available to help. Note that extra duty work is voluntary for our officers, so your request may not be filled.
Current rates for off-duty officers:
- Standard rate is $71.50 per officer per hour
- Holiday rate is $107.25 per officer per hour
When booking an off-duty officer, you agree to these requirements:
- There is a two-hour minimum. If a job ends in less time, each officer scheduled will be paid for two hours.
- Partial hours worked will be rounded up in 15-minute increments.
- An additional 30 minutes is added to the start time and to the end time to allow the officer time to get into uniform, get the gear needed for the assignment and travel to the location of the assignment.
- If a job is canceled within 72 hours of the scheduled start time, each officer assigned to that job shall be paid the two-hour minimum.
- Holiday pay rate applies to New Year’s Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day.
How to request an officer
The Waukee Police Department uses Extra Duty Solutions (EDS) to administer extra-duty details worked by the Waukee Police Department. EDS handles all scheduling of the officers and manages customer payments through their online platform and 24/7 support team. Additionally, EDS maintains a robust insurance program designed to protect against claims arising out of the assignment of off-duty personnel acting in a security capacity.
We recommend submitting your off-duty detail request as far in advance of your event as possible.
- If this is your first off-duty officer detail request with EDS, create an account in the EDS portal. Read this guide for help setting up your account.
- Submit your detail request through the online portal or by calling EDS at 515-776-3520. As you enter your event information, be sure to include details, such as how many people will be at the event, if alcohol will be served and anything else about the venue, attendees or event that could help the officers prepare.
- EDS may contact you if there are any questions about your request.
- View information about your detail request, make payments, see invoices and find past requests at any time within the portal.
