[ARCHIVED] Waukee Police Encourage Residents to Lock Up at Night

lock cars

Following a string of burglaries in the Des Moines Metro area, the Waukee Police Department is encouraging residents to lock up property at night. Many of the recent burglaries have involved vehicles left outside, unlocked. Don't forget to lock up those vehicles, too! The PD recommends designating a time each night to consistently ensure the following checklist items are done. Often, the department has referred to it as the #9PMRoutine, however, residents can certainly choose a different time. Each night, be sure to:

  • Lock the doors on your home.
  • Park vehicles in the garage, if able.
  • Close garage door(s); lock any entrance doors to garage.
  • If parking vehicles outside, lock vehicle doors.
  • Do not leave valuables in plain sight in vehicles.
  • Activate alarms, if applicable.
  • Close blinds and/or curtains.
  • Leave porch lights on.
