Yard Waste

Weekly curbside collection of yard waste begins on Monday, March 30, 2026.

What can you do with leftover leaves and other yard waste?

• You can put out any remaining yard waste during Christmas tree collection on Monday, January 5 or January 12. 
• Take it to Dallas County Landfill in Adel, which accepts yard waste from any Dallas County resident. Find more information on their website here. 
• Take it to one of the Metro Waste Authority drop sites. Find more information at MWA.com.

Yard Waste Program

Yard waste collection for City of Waukee garbage customers begins the last Monday in March and continues until the last Monday in November. If there is a holiday on a Monday, Ankeny Sanitation (ASI) will pick-up yard waste the following Tuesday unless otherwise noted on the ASI website. 

NOTE: Open burning is not allowed within the city limits of Waukee. 

Yard waste is vegetation including materials such as grass clippings, leaves, brush and garden waste. Pumpkins are also accepted. Materials must be put into biodegradable bags or reusable containers with a 40-pound maximum weight and set at the curb. If you are using a reusable container, clearly mark it with "YARD WASTE" or a large "Y" and use it only for yard waste. Do not use your garbage or recycling bin for yard waste.

Sticks, Brush, & Branches

Sticks, brush and branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled (with string or twine) with a 40-pound maximum weight per bundle. If the sticks will fit into a small reusable container they will not need to be bundled. Please do not use your Ankeny Sanitation (ASI) garbage or recycling containers for yard waste.

Collection

Place the approved items at the curb for collection. Items can be set out the night before or before 7 a.m. the day of collection. Please contact Ankeny Sanitation (ASI) at 515-964-5229 with any questions.

Christmas Trees

Christmas tree pick-up for 2026 is planned for Monday, January 5 and Monday, January 12.
Twice each winter, typically the first and second Mondays in January, Ankeny Sanitation (ASI) picks up real Christmas trees from the curbs of City of Waukee/ASI garbage customers' households. Remove all items from the trees, including ornaments, lights and tinsel. Do not place your tree in a bag. Trees should be on the curb prior to 7 a.m. on those dates. You may put any remaining yard waste on the curb on these dates.
